BCAF X Masters
MEMORIA, the first film in Spanish directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and co-produced by BCAF, has been included in the 2021 Cannes Festival main competition lineup.
Apichatpong won the Palme d’Or Prize for his feature film, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Mekong Hotel, in 2010 Cannes Film Festival, and Tropical Malady for the Jury Prize in 2004. The shortlisting of MEMORIA marks the 6th time an Apichatpong’s film is selected to compete at the Cannes Film Festival.
Set in Colombia, MEMORIA stars Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton, César du cinéma Best Actress Jeanne Balibar and the Spanish actor Daniel Giménez Cacho. The film follows a woman from Scotland, while traveling in Colombia, begins to hear mysterious sound. Soon she begins to think about the source of their appearance.

China Art Film Fund was established in 2016. The fund is dedicated to exploring the artistic originality and creativity of emerging independent filmmakers. Together with international and domestic innovative cultural venture capital resources, it is committed to supporting young artists’ independent auteur filmmaking and breaking the existing boundaries and definition between art and film.
Independent film director from Thailand, screenwriter, and film producer. Apichatpong’s first feature, Mysterious Object at Noon, premiered in 2000 and screened in numerous international festivals. With many enthusiastic reviews and awards, the documentary has been listed among the best films of the year 2000 by Film Comment and the Village Voice.
Blissfully Yours, a 2002 romance film directed by Apichatpong, won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Syndromes and a Century was the first Thai film to be entered into competition at the 63rd Venice Film Festival.
The Thai Office of Contemporary Art and culture also honored Apichatpong with Silpathorn Award for filmmaking in 2005, recognizing his contributions to Thai contemporary arts.
He is one of the few working outside the Thai studio system. With Kick the Machine, the company he founded in 1999, Apichatpong is actively promoting independent and experimental films.
A Scottish actress, producer, and screenwriter. Swinton began her career with the experimental film, Caravaggio, in 1986. Continuously making creative and visual impressions on stage, in films and dramas, Swinton is appreciated by art house crowds and international audiences alike.
She was the winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in the 2007 film Michael Clayton. She won the European Film Award for Best Actress and received a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the psychological thriller We Need to Talk About Kevin in 2011. Young Adam, in 2003, has won her the British Academy Scotland Award for Best Actress and three Golden Globe Award Nominations.
She is also known for her iconic role as the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia series and the Ancient One in the Doctor Strange (2016) and subsequent Avengers: Endgame (2019).
In 2005, Tilda was given the Richard Harris Award by the British Independent Film Awards in recognition of her contributions to the British film industry. In 2020, she was named as a recipient of the British Film Institute Fellowship, the highest honor presented by the Institute to recognize one’s contribution to film or television culture.
