Artist Residency in China


FQ Projects

Shanghai
Mission FQ Projects provides a unique platform for the promotion and development of young and mid-career Chinese contemporary artists. It is located in Huai Hai Fang, a lane favored by the Shanghainese bourgeois class and at the heart of Shanghai both geographically and culturally.

Each Year FQ Projects carries out a number of exhibitions by artists working with different medium, designed to bring together a varied audience, from artists to critics, from curators to collectors and the general public.


OverviewLong-term Residency:
1) Duration: > 1 month
2) Number of artist: 1/residency (companions are allowed, accommodation is only for one)
3) Expectation from the artist
a. Conduct a public program related to your practice and your experience here
b. One open studio event
c. Reflect on local context
d. Share and present your experience at the end of the residency
Short-term Residency:
1) Duration: 1 week
2) Number of artist: 1-3/residency (companions are allowed, accommodation is only for one)
3) Short-term residency is open to China-based artists who are interested to use our space or out on-going activities to carry out their ideas. Forms of showcasing your creations includes but as not limited to performance, poetry reading, lecture, class, workshop etc.                                           
Who can apply:
artist (working in any medium), film-maker, writer, musician, architect, designer, researcher, education programmer, critic, curator

Facilities and Grants 
Our space is very flexible in terms of making and showcasing works. We have rooms of various sizes through out the three floors, plus transitional spaces like hallways and staircases. The rooms are full of natural light. There is also a small yard in front of the house. The building is adjacent to other residential buildings with shared outdoor space.
We provide:
1) Internet
2) Office space
3) Critique/Exhibition Space (negotiable based on need)
4) 1-3 Studio (private or shared, negotiable based on need)
5) Classroom (10-15 people)
6) Meeting room                                       
7) Grants: We are an independent project space and are currently unable to offer any fellowship or other financial aid. We encourage our artist to seek outside funding.
Long-term Residency Fee:
1) 6000 RMB/month
2) Covers accommodation and basic operating costs
3) Weekly cleaning
4) Not included in the fee: transportation, food, material and other daily expense
Short-term Residency Fee:
1) 1500 RMB/week
2) Covers accommodation and basic operating costs
3) Weekly cleaning
4) Not included in the fee: transportation, food, material and other daily expense.
