BCAF International Scholarship (2019-present)

Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation (BCAF) is honored to announce a new partnership with The New School and the launch The Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation-Parsons School of Design Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship will support 4 undergraduate students annually with demonstrated financial need and interest in Chinese art, culture and design, contribute to future Sino-U.S. cultural collaborations.

This scholarship represents strengthen strategic collaborations in Sino-U.S. arts and design between BCAF and Parsons. Young talents with global perspectives shape the future and enable them to flourish is our mission. In October 2018, BCAF organized and invited representatives from The New School on a tour to discover culture, technology, philanthropy, education organizations around China. “The New School is a very unique university in New York. We have a wide range of transcontinental collaborations, especially with Chinese universities, institutions and businesses.” The New School President David E. Van Zandt said during the visit. “We have 10,000 students enrolled in our programs and one-third of them comes from places outside the U.S. among which 900 are from China. We have a long history of working with China.”

BCAF and The New School will co-host more events and programs in the future showcasing Chinese leaders in the art and design world. “As an independent art foundation dedicated to supporting young talents and international cultural partnerships, BCAF is very honored to support the mission of The New School, which is strongly integrated with social innovations and cross-border experiments,” said Qiao Cui, president of BCAF. “The scholarship provides financial support to young design students and aids in the facilitation of international dialogue and collaboration. BCAF believes in the power of art, design and open-minded education beyond their definitions, and we would encourage the young talents to explore diversified possibilities to change the world.”

The scholarship is part of The New School’s New Century Campaign, the largest campus-wide fundraising effort in its history. The university has set a goal to raise $250 million to mark The New School’s Centennial anniversary as a dynamic center for scholars, artists, and activists. BCAF joins many other diners in helping the university secure over $50 million in scholarship support as part of the centennial effort.

The New School Parsons School of Design

Founded in 1919, The New School was established to advance academic freedom, tolerance, and experimentation. A century later, The New School remains at the forefront of innovation in higher education, inspiring more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students to challenge the status quo in design and the social sciences, liberal arts, management, the arts, and media.

Parsons School of Design was founded in 1896 and inspired by the transformative potential of design. The school’s groundbreaking academic programs carry forward that mission, making Parsons the number one design school in the U.S. and among the top three globally. Some notable Parsons alumni include Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Tom Ford, Yohji Yamamoto.
