Artist Residency in China


The Swatch Art Peace Hotel artist residency

Mission The Swatch Art Peace Hotel artist residency is designed to bring together artists from around the world to experience a unique cultural environment dedicated to contemporary art in the extraordinary city of Shanghai. The focus of the residency is on creative exchange. Artists are free to engage in individual or joint projects.


Overview
The Swatch Art Peace Hotel invites artists from around the world to apply online for a residency in this extraordinary city. The applications are reviewed by an international committee whose efforts ensure that a broad range of artistic disciplines, styles and national origins is represented.


Application Requirements
1) Register an account on our website
2) Login and prepare your application
3) You are required to adhere to all of the terms and conditions. Please read each document carefully.
4) Submit and pay a fee of 30 Swiss francs which will be entirely donated to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
5) Your application will be reviewed by an international committee. Please allow minimum 12 weeks for the process.

Facilities and Grants
Residency provides:
1)Assistance when applying for a business visa
2)Round trip ticket to Shanghai
3)Accommodation at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel
4)Housekeeping service
5)Breakfast
6)Other facilities and services
Each artist-in-residence is assigned a numbered cupboard and fridge space in the third floor community kitchen area, which is equipped with induction cooktops, kitchenware and utensils at the artists’ disposal.
*Please note that there is no stipend. Artists-in-residence should be able to provide for their personal and professional needs for the duration of their stay. Residency does not include the following:
1)Coverage of costs charged by airline companies for excess luggage.
2)Costs related to the removal and transport of artwork and material from the Swatch Art Peace Hotel or costs for storage of artwork and material awaiting removal.
3)Any flight or travel costs other than the round trip flight or train ticket to and from Shanghai provided initially.
4)Material or tools for artists-in-residence’s work.
5)Other personal and professional expenses.
6)Additional hotel services such as use of the business center, printing and copying facilities, etc.
7)Drinks and meals other than breakfast.
8)Phone call expenses.
9)Costs involving or incurred by visitors.
10)Artists-in-residence will be asked to present a credit card in order to guarantee payment of hotel services and will be requested to settle their accounts on a monthly basis.
