Artist Residency in the U.S.

MissionIts mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment.

Overview Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following disciplines: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Artists may apply individually or as members of collaborative teams of two or three persons.

Artists who qualify for Yaddo residencies are working at the professional level in their fields. An abiding principle at Yaddo is that applications for residency are judged on the quality of the artist’s work and professional promise. There are no publication, exhibition, or performance requirements for application.

Application Requirements
1) Visual Art
Required: Seven jpg digital images.
Optional: Documentary or elemental video of an installation.

2) Music Composition
Instrumental forms (symphonic, chamber music, band), vocal forms (opera, choral, songs), electronic music, music for film, sound art.
Two separate musical scores: PDF (10 MB/each).
Recordings of one or both scores: MP3 (30 MB/each).
For works created without a score, a brief statement (PDF) should be included.

3) Performance
Performance art, choreography, multimedia, and/or collaborative other works incorporating live performance.
Required: Video documentation of up to three excerpts totaling 10 minutes in length.
Required: Brief description in PDF form of the documented performance(s), 250 words maximum, including date, location, and major collaborators.

4) Film & Video
Videos and films which are principally cinematic in nature.

5) Videographers & Filmmakers
Required: Video documentation of up to three excerpts totaling 10 minutes in length.
Optional: Brief written explanation (PDF).

6) Screenwriters
Required: PDF of a screenplay, no more than 10,000 words or 30 pages. May include a brief synopsis if necessary.

Facilities and Grants 
Each artist has a private bedroom in one of several buildings on the estate. Linens are provided, and laundry facilities are available. Breakfast and dinner are taken communally, while lunch is packed for each artist to carry away. Although the kitchen cannot offer meals for special diets, vegetarian alternatives are provided.

Application Deadlines
The application portal opens June 1 for the August 1 deadline and November 1 for the January 5 deadline.
