About Liu Cixin

Liu Cixin, male, born in June 1963, senior engineer, member of Chinese Writers Association (CWA) and Chinese Science Writers Association (CWA), is a representative writer of the new generation of Science fiction in China. He is recognized as the leading figure of Chinese science fiction literature, and his works have won wide praise for their magnificent atmosphere and gorgeous imagination. His science fiction successfully combines the extreme ethereality with the heavy reality, pays attention to the connotation and aesthetic feeling of science, and tries to create a science fiction literature style with Chinese characteristics.

He has published about 4 million words, including 7 full-length novels, 10 anthologies, 16 novellas, 18 short stories, a collection of essays and some critical articles.

His works won the Galaxy Award of Chinese Science Fiction from 1999 to 2006 and the Outstanding Children's Literature Award of China Writers Association in 2013.He won the World Science Fiction Society Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2015, and the American Science Fiction Locus Award for Best Novel in 2017, The Arthur Clark Award for Imagination in Service to Society in 2018, The Nebula Award for Japanese Science Fiction in 2020 and 2021.

About the 2023 "UN Chinese Language Day"

In order to emphasize the importance of language and cultural diversity, the United Nations Department of Public Information (now the Department of Global Communications) announced the launch of UN Language Days in 2010. Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, and UN Chinese Language Day is designated on April 20th each year, which corresponds to the traditional Chinese solar term "Grain Rain," to commemorate the contribution of Cangjie, the inventor of Chinese characters and considered the ancestor of Chinese writing.

Since the inaugural celebration held at the United Nations headquarters in New York in November 2010, the colorful activities of UN Chinese Language Day have received much attention and anticipation for their promotion of the role of Chinese in the UN's multilateral diplomacy and showcasing the unique charm of Chinese language and culture. Every year around Chinese Language Day, the United Nations headquarters in New York launches a series of diverse activities, including art exhibitions, Chinese language forums, themed lectures, and displays of traditional and modern Chinese culture, such as fashion and opera. Additionally, the UN offices in Geneva, Bangkok, Nairobi, Vienna, and other UN agencies also hold exhibitions, lectures, and fun knowledge quizzes to showcase the charm of Chinese language and culture.
The 2023 UN Chinese Language Day series of activities will be themed "Chinese Wisdom, Green Development," focusing on the topic of green sustainable development and providing Chinese wisdom and solutions from a cultural perspective.
