‘Use Everything: Long-lasting Vitality’ public welfare exhibition

Each handicraft product is a microcosm of human activity. Chinese handicrafts have been popular throughout history. It is natural to combine and present them in different ways today.

Since 2015, the Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation has supported traditional handicrafts across the country. This includes the Dulong carpet series from Gongshan County in Yunnan Province, the Xia cloth series from Liuyang in Hunan Province, Tibetan felt products from Yushu in Qinghai Province, Tibetan wool carpets from Tibet, gold and silver inlaid jade carvings from Beijing, and lacquered leather goods from Fuzhou in Fujian Province, Nanjing cloud brocade, Nanjing pom-pom flowers, Shanxi Shangdang pile brocade, Guizhou Dali Dong embroidery, Guizhou Miao embroidery, Sichuan Liangshan Yi silver jewellery, Sichuan Chengdu bamboo weaving, Yunnan Jino machete cloth, Zhejiang Dongyang bamboo weaving, Hubei Tujia Xilankapu. Traditional Chinese crafts and contemporary design are being combined.

The traditional craftsmanship must be kept alive. But we must also avoid rigidity, or it will lose its meaning for us today. As the environment and people suffer, long-lasting design and sustainable concepts are becoming more important. The theme 'Making the Most of Things: Long-lasting Vitality' shows how tradition can be kept alive by using new ways of creating.

BCAF, a charity partner of REVELATIONS CHINA, will launch a charity exhibition to bring together Chinese craft communities, artists and designers.
